ANNOUNCING "modeling the unseen"  a discussion with Hans Michel from Kirkegaard Associates and Emir Pekdemir from BuroHappold EngineeringThursday July 30th at 6pm at the office of :AIA:Chicago35 East Upper Wacker Drive #250, Chicago, IL 60601//about the eventComputer modeling has provided a new tool to modern building designers, allowing them to predict the outcomes of various preliminary designs in a time frame previously unanticipated. By weighing the accuracy and limitations of various modeling methods against the experience of senior designers, a great amount of insight can be gained. Weighing the value of this process to the design, as well as its financial burden on project fees is a crucial part of understanding when using a model is important.Hans Michel from Kirkegaard Associates and Emir Pekdemir from BuroHappold Engineering will discuss how they implement various modeling methods for Acoustics and Energy disciplines both unseen to the naked eye. There will be an open discussion about the subjectivity of analysis and future outlook on simulation based techniques.Hans is a Consultant with Kirkegaard Associates. He works in all subdisciplines of building acoustics, from room acoustics, to acoustic isolation and mechanical system noise control. Hans works with the design team through all phases of design and construction to develop acoustically sound buildings.Emir is a Building Performance Analyst with BuroHappold Engineering and is a core member of Chicago Computation Group. He performs computational analyses including dynamic thermal and airflow modeling, computational fluid dynamics, energy & daylight analysis, and advanced mechanical system simulations to provide design teams with solutions to achieve better performance in buildings.
